Respite from cold in Kashmir

Srinagar experienced a relatively warm night as the minimum temperature settled at 1.2 degrees Celsius, against season's low of minus 4.0 yesterday, an official of the MET department told PTI.

The Kargil district, in the cold desert of Ladakh, was the coldest recorded place in the state where mercury settled at a low of minus 10.0 degrees, over a degree warmer than the night before when it was minus 11.6 degrees Celsius, the official said.

The nearby Leh town also recorded a rise in the night temperature which settled at minus 8.2 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday's minus 17.0 degrees Celsius, the official said.

He said Gulmarg skiing resort in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2 degrees Celsius.

The weatherman has forecast dry weather over the next couple of days with snowfall or rain expected on December 26.
