Respite from heavy rains in capital

Delhi recorded 14.4 mm of rains during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 AM but the national capital received no rains between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM, the MeT office said.

Though the humidity was between 81 per cent and 97 per cent, the below normal temperature made the day comfortable for people.

The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.8 deg C, which is three degrees below normal, while the minimum was at 24.3 deg C, two notches below normal at this time of year.

The city yesterday witnessed the highest rainfall (59.9 mm) so far this season. This month, city has got 345.2 mm of rains, the second highest for August in the past 12 years. The city received 455.1 mm of rainfall in August, 2010.

Delhi has received a total of 495.6 mm of rains during this monsoon, which had an onset on July six. The record rain for the month was in 1961 when the city received 583.3 mm of rains in August.

The weather office said more rain is expected in the next few days.

Tomorrow, the MeT office said the city would experience a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers in some areas. The temperatures would be around 32 and 25 deg C.
