"I agree with you on the need to fix responsibility if there were lapses in his treatment," Singh said in his letter to the former CJI's wife Pushpa Verma, who had written to him alleging lapses in the treatment of Justice Verma.
The former CJI had died in April due to multiple organ failure in a private hospital at the age of 80.
Besides Pushpa Verma, 34 eminent citizens led by former CJI M N Venkatachaliah had also written to the Prime Minister demanding a probe into alleged lapses in the treatment of Justice Verma.
"Copies of all papers and documents regarding his treatment are available with us, if required. Something good will emerge from the injustice faced by us if such a thing can be avoided," Verma had said in her letter written to Singh in July.
In his reply, Singh said the PMO has forwarded her letter to the Health Ministry.
"And the Ministry is in consultation with the Medical Council of India for further necessary action on the issue you have raised," Singh wrote.
