Restore Rs 1K minimum monthly pension under EPFO: Cong to govt
Press Trust of India New Delhi Slamming the move to suspend the Rs 1,000 minimum monthly pension under EPFO scheme, Congress today accused the NDA government of being anti-poor and anti- worker even as it demanded immediate restoration of the payment to the lakhs of pensioners who rely on it.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley must apologise to the workers of this country for this anti-people step and assure that the minimum guaranteed pension and insurance amounts shall be restored," party spokesman PC Chacko told reporters here.
He said UPA had last year raised the pension amount to Rs 1,000, meeting a long-pending demand of the workers.
Chacko said that the worrying factor was that the government has considerably reduced the budget provision for all social sector schemes.
"Some (schemes) are stopped and some are neglected," he said.
