Justice B Rajendran, before whom the petition filed by S Sowdhini of Krishnagiri came up for hearing, directed the government to file its response by Friday.
In her petition the girl, represented by her father, submitted that there was disparity between the manner in which questions were prepared with regard to solar energy for English-medium students and those who wrote in Tamil.
As the question prepared in English was more confusing and not prepared properly, students who wrote the paper, including herself, were unable to answer it, she said.
Since the question carried three marks, loss of marks would have adverse impact on those aspiring to get admission to professional courses in colleges, she said.

Sowdhini contended that the Higher Secondary Examination is very competitive and loss of even a single mark will have an impact on admission to professional courses in colleges.
The student also referred to intervention of Madurai Bench on a similar matter, resulting in the education department declaring that all students who attended the question be awarded six marks for the said question.
