CPI(M) today said that the Assembly elections results in the four states were a reflection of "widespread anger" against the burdens imposed by the policies of Congress.
"It is clear that there is a widespread anger against the burdens imposed on the people by the Congress' policies. That is reflected in these results. The verdict has to be accepted and respected," senior party leader Sitraram Yechury told PTI.
Maintaining that BJP has gained the benefit of the people's negative vote against Congress, he said wherever there was a viable alternative against these parties, the alternative (AAP) has done well.
"It clearly shows that a viable alternative to BJP and Congress, based on alternative pro-people policies, will receive popular support," he said.
Yechury said those who are projecting the results of these four states at the national level must remember that "these states put together send only 73 MPs to the Lok Sabha."
"In a House of 545, 273 MPs are required to form a government, that is 200 seats more than all MPs in these states put together".
He said that his party will give a detailed response after the full results are out.
