Retired Army officer dies in freak accident

A retired Army officer was killed today after he fell down through a gap meant for the lift when a door accidentally opened up on the wrong floor.
According to a senior officer of the Kolkata Police, the incident happened at south Kolkata's Kasba area when the former Colonel of Army wanted to take the lift from the fourth floor of his residence.
After pressing the call button, the door of the lift opened on the fourth floor, but the lift was still at the first floor, he said.
"Primary investigation revealed that the victim thought that the lift was there and stepped in without noticing that the lift box was not on the fourth floor and fell down on the roof of lift box on the first floor," the officer said, adding when rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival by doctors.

The Police were waiting for the post-mortem report and were questioning the lift operator.
