A retired Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) allegedly committed suicide by setting himself ablaze in house in Dungarpur district here, police said today.
The 65-year-old CMHO, identified as Dr Kantilal, died on his way to a hospital yesterday after he poured kerosene and immolated himself, police said.
A suicide note has been recovered from his possession in which he has held one Vipin Pandya responsible for the suicide, they said.
The deceased's wife Nirmala had also committed suicide in December last year after which he lodged an FIR against Pandya for blackmailing and abetting his wife for suicide.
Kantilal was apparently not satisfied with the investigation in the suicide case of his wife, police said.
After the suicide, locals in Sagwada town assembled and demanded immediate arrest of Pandya, who runs a nursing college and is absconding.
Police has handed over the body the family after post mortem and efforts are on to nab the accused, they said.
