"A monitoring is required in the functioning of the courts. Court proceedings, except those secret in nature like rape cases, should be telecast live," retired Justice C N Ramachandran Nair said here.
Addressing a media seminar on Right to Information organised by Darsana Cultural Centre as part of a book fair, he cited the examples of live telecast of proceedings of parliament and state assemblies.
Suggesting more transparency in the functioning of the courts, he said live telecast of court proceedings would also help general public to come to know how justice was done in cases in the courts.
Mediapersons in the state are facing problems in covering court proceedings since July 19 after a group of lawyers chased them away, angered over a media report about a Government Pleader allegedly misbehaving with a woman in Kochi.
