Retired TNEB official killed, wife injured in mishap

: A retired official of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board died on the spot and his wife was injured when their car hit the wall of the bridge near a bypass road here and burst into flames, police said.
Muthukumaraswamy (65) and his wife were returning to Tiruvarur after attending a function at a relative's house here when the mishap occurred.
He was driving the car, police said.
They said the car hit the wall of the bridge at Grand Anaicut canal near a bypass road and burst into flames, killing him on the spot.
Fire force personnel rushed to the spot, doused the flames and retrieved the body of Muthukumarasamy.
His wife has been hospitalised, police said.
