"The percentage of students from the state succeeding in national and international level is very nominal. Success rate of students from other states, particularly in southern India is higher," the minister said at a meet here yesterday.
"Its time to think about the sorry state of affairs prevailing in the state and to take steps to produce the best students," he said.
Referring his recent visit to some of the colleges in the state, the minister said the standard of several students in various institutes was too poor and they were unable to answer some basic questions in general knowledge. "Being the education minister, I am ashamed of the poor state of affairs," he said.
He also stressed on the participatory method of teaching where there is regular interaction between the students and teachers. At the same time, minister asked the teachers to upgrade themselves.
