"The committee has also recommended a review of a no- detention policy and its implementation in a phased manner," Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha said in Lok Sabha.
The Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) had constituted the sub-committee under the chairmanship of the then Education Minister of Haryana Geeta Bukkal to examine the no-detention policy after the measure came in for criticism from various quarters.
The no-detention policy in classes was implemented as part of the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) to ensure holistic development of students.
While recommending a review of the no-detention policy, the sub-committee is understood to have argued that automatic promotions have badly impacted the performance of children.
Last week, during an interction, some students appealed to HRD Minister Smriti Irani to revert back to the old system of class promotions.
Later talking to PTI, Irani said a decision in this regard would be taken by CABE slated to meet after the winter session of Parliament.
