The deadline for registration as a voter in the city ahead of Assembly polls closed at midnight today after a rush among Delhiites to sign up for voting had seen election officials extend the window for entering names on electoral rolls.
Although registration of voters would continue hereafter, their names will not be added in the final voters' list for the December 4 Assembly polls, according to Delhi's Chief Electoral Office.
Eligible persons who are yet to get their voter IDs may apply online for the same till midnight today.
The final voters' list for the polls is to be announced on November 16.
According to sources, around 2.5 lakh new names would have been added to the list of 1.15 crore voters in the national capital when the final list comes out.
The final list is being sent to the polling booths so that the booth in-charge can verify the names and other details.
Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer had on September 9 finalised the voters' list for the Assembly polls. However, with the overwhelming rush to sign up for voting, it had decided to accept fresh applications until November 6.
Chief Electoral officer Vijay Dev said that after the issuance of the notification for the polls, a large number of applications had reached them for registration on the voters' list.
