Revised national policy for senior citizens soon

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Mukul Wasnik said the recommendations of the expert committee, which was looking into various provisions of the policy, was actively being considered by the government and it would be implemented soon.

"There are huge expectations of the senior citizens from the government. I am closely working with various NGOs for realisation of these expectations," he said at a function on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons.

Wasnik said the government was trying to look into various inter-generational gaps and how to plug them as these would bring real happiness to senior citizens.

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said his Ministry was trying its best to ensure that senior citizens were free from all exploitation and authorities provide them physical assistance whenever they need it.

"Security forces must provide protection to senior citizens," he said.

Shinde said the Delhi Police was implementing a special scheme for the protection of senior citizens which was getting dividend.

Several senior citizens and NGOS were working for welfare of elderly persons were felicitated at the function.
