Hosted by the National Gandhi Museum at Rajghat, the photographs are part of an exhibition that celebrates the centenary year of Gandhi's "Great March" in South Africa. The exhibition has also been titled "Great March".
"The year 2013 coincides with the 100th anniversary of Gandhi's 1913 march when the Satyagraha campaign was at its peak. These few photographs are just a beginning as many more photographs will be added to the exhibition during the next few months," Uttam Sinha, an official at National Gandhi Museum here said.
"The display also seeks to highlight the unknown or less-known faces from the movement. The participation of women passive resisters was a key element of the Satyagraha campaign," Sinha said.
Mahatma Gandhi had in the year 1913 launched a passive resistance campaign to protest restrictions imposed on Indians and the tax law. He led the march on November 6 1913, which included women, children and men.
"The photographs give you glimpses of the true nature of the struggle and is very different from what we read in the books. This exhibition is not just about Gandhi but about the people, the Indians, the stragglers and the protesters," said a visitor.
