Rice basmati maintains upward trend on strong demand

Rice basmati maintained its upward trend for the third day and prices spurted by another Rs 500 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today on persistent buying by stockists against tight stocks position.
However, other grains including wheat held steady in thin trade.
Traders said increased buying by stockists following soaring demand from rice mills against restricted supplies from growing regions, mainly led an upward trend in rice basmati prices.
In the national capital, rice basmati common and Pusa- 1121 variety surged by Rs 500 each to Rs 7,700-7,800 and Rs 6,600-6,700 per quintal, respectively.
