Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton starrer 1980 feature film 'American Gigolo', is bringing the story to Paramount TV.
Bruckheimer will executive produce the new version while director Paul Schrader is on board as an executive consultant, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"With its signature noir aesthetic, American Gigolo has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I'm thrilled to partner with (Paramount CEO) Brad (Grey) and (Paramount TV president) Amy (Powell) on remaking it into a television series," Bruckheimer said.
The film starred Gere as the highest paid gigolo in LA who gets framed in a woman's murder.
'American Gigolo' is the latest Hollywood movie to get a small screen treatment. Films like 'Minority Report', 'Ghost', 'Terminator', 'The Truman Show', 'Monster-in-Law', 'Rush Hour', 'In Good Company', 'Heat of the Night' and 'Marley & Me' are headed to TV.
