Rickshaw puller stabbed to death, accused held

Two juveniles have been apprehended for allegedly stabbing to death a 26-year-old rickshaw puller and robbing him of Rs 185 in Rajendra Place area, police said today.
The juvenile duo had consumed beer about 8.30 PM on January 16 and wanted to buy more beer but were short of money, said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP (Central).
"One of them was carrying a knife which he had found sometime back. Both of them planned to rob money from some soft target at knifepoint.
"They took a rickshaw for going to Rajendra Place. On the way near Punjab and Sind Bank, there was a small dark stretch and both of them overpowered the rickshaw puller and asked him to part with the cash he was having," said the officer.
While the rickshaw puller retaliated, he was stabbed by them in the abdomen.
By the time police reached the spot, two persons were seen fleeing away on foot.

"They were chased by the patrolling staff on motorcycle and the juveniles left main road and entered Jheel Park. The constables then chased them on foot. Later, the juveniles were located and apprehended," he said.
A button-actuated knife was recovered and robbed cash was seized. The victim, Bhanu Pratap, was rushed to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
The juveniles have been sent to an observation home.
