A spokesman of the police separtment said that Sandeep Kumar was arrested from village Toba, district Ambala, and about 140 'tolas' of stolen gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 40 lakh and a country-made firearm were recovered from his possession.
During interrogation, Kumar revealed that he and his accomplice Avtar Singh of Handesra, district Mohali, Punjab, who had been arrested earlier, were involved in about 40 cases of dacoity and robbery, the spokesman said.
They also used to take loans against the stolen ornaments from private banks and companies, the spokesman claimed.
In a separate case, Dilbag Singh, resident of Bubakpur, district Kaithal, who was carrying on his head a reward of Rs 50,000, was arrested from Pehowa and 400 bundles of poppy husk were recovered from his possession, the spokesman claimed.
The court has declared him absconding in a case under various Acts, the spokesman added.
