'Rise recovery of fake currency, illegal arms, drugs in '13'

Delhi Police today claimed that its drive against drug trafficking last year has dealt a big blow to the suppliers as an increase in the recovery of narcotic substances has been registered in the capital during the said period.
As many as 435 cases of drug trafficking were registered and 536 criminals were arrested, besides the recovery of 34.325 kgs of heroin, 60.680 kgs opium, 3110.0813 kgs of Ganja and 0.622-kg cocaine last year, the annual review report of Delhi Police said.
The city police also took up a vigorous drive against counterfeit currency in association with the Reserve Bank of India, the Customs and the Intelligence Bureau. A total of 66 counterfeit currency cases were registered last year and 5.66 crore fake currency was recovered, it said, adding, that during this period an increase in recovery of illegal arms has been registered in the capital.
Last year, Delhi Police recovered 688 illegal fire arms, 1251 live cartridges, 198 magazines and 487 sharp-edged weapons. It also busted nearly six national gangs operating in the National Capital Region and procuring illegal arms from Munger in Bihar and Dhar in Madhya Pradesh, the release said.
