Years after being put on celluloid Rabindranath Tagore's eponymous, 'Streer Patro' has now come up in an audio book with the voice-over of late Rituparno Ghosh.
"When a sensitive mind like Rituparno reads out excerpts of Streer Patro it recreates a different soundscape, effect and feel," the maverick director's long time associate, music director Debajyoti Misra told PTI at the launch of the audio book.
"Purnendu Patri had definitely created magic on screen with the deft portrayal of a woman's, a housewife's quest in Streer Patro, the film. But listening is another medium, depending on sensory feelings. The lines turn out to be lot more evocative if you keep your ears turned to such dramas," Debajyoti, having collaborated with many intense films of the Chitrangada director, said.
"Radio play and film manifest in separate languages, separate dialects. One communicates with the dialect of image and visions, and the other with auditory wings," the famed music composer, director said.
Debajyoti, one of the close confidants of Rituparno, recalled how the Chokher Bali and Noukadubi director ever dreamt of taking up another project on Tagore.
"We used to discuss a lot about Tagore's great volume of works and how to work on it. There was a thinking, creative buzz always in his mind. He had wishes to bring out more works. Streer Potro was always an exciting proposition for Rituparno as he did not read the complete work of "Golpoguchho". He has always worked with the theme of 'loneliness bonding'.
Streer Patro (The letter from the wife) is one of the earliest depictions in Bengali literature of such bold emancipation of women, Debajyoti said.

Ghosh had earlier said after recording, "Perhaps Streer Patro projected the issues of loneliness and bonding alwayz exemplified by me and hanting me as a person at a subconscious level.
"Streer Patro had always been an exciting proposition as I had ever been stricken by the poignant impact of the letter narrative since I had not been often introduced to this form of art," he had said.
"Rituda had embellished the texture with his masterstrokes - poetry enacted scenes so much so that the entire piece unfolds like a perfect mosaic of art," Rituparno's favourite actor Prosenjit Chatterjee said.
The audio rendition of Streer Patro by Rituparno Ghosh was a Radio Mirchi initiative and it was first broadcast by the FM channel.
"We are coming out with Audio Books of the literary gems of Kabi Guru, which have engrossed the readers, time and again," Mahua Lahiri of Asha Audio said.
