Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) today sought the support of Janata Dal (United) to unite people against divisive forces like former prime minister Chaudhary Charan Singh did.
Addressing a 'Sankalp' rally on the 111th birth anniversary of party founder and his father Chaudhary Charan Singh, RLD chief Ajit Singh asked JD(U) President Sharad Yadav to support him to bring back the power of erstwhile leader.
"To increase the power of the farmers that you are seeing here, we will need your support," Singh told Yadav who was present on the dais at the function.
"Then people will say Chaudhary Charan Singh was not only a leader of this region, but also of Bihar," he said.
On the Muzaffarnagar riots, Singh said the riots were politically motivated and designed by the BJP and SP so that the power of the people is suppressed.
Addressing his party workers, he said unless farmers of both Hindu and Muslim communities unite, "your party" (RLD) will not come to power.

On the matter of reservation for Jat communities, he said this will happen only if people unite.
"Laws will not only change if you people unite, but they will also be made to uphold your dignity," the leader said.
Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, JDU general secretary K C Tyagi and RLD general secretary Jayant Chaudhary were also present at the rally.
Addressing the rally, Hooda said he was worried about farmers not gettting the minimum support price guaranteed by the government and promised to do so if the people unite.
He welcomed the decision of the Centre to give reservation to Jats, and thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.
Digvijay Singh also reiterated the matter on reservation and attacked rival BJP on the Muzaffarnagar violence and asked the farmers to unite against divisive forces.
Sharad Yadav told the gathering that Chaudhary Charan Singh was a great leader of the people after Indira Gandhi and he had united divided people.
JDU leader K C Tyagi said people in Delhi say Ajit Singh's power has gone down. "It is the power of the people that has gone down. If you people unite, Ajit Singh's stature will grow many times."
Jayant Chaudhary said it was easy to make people fight, but very difficult to bring them together and recalled Chaudhary Charan Singh did this in his entire life.
