The Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development said it has been long pending demand.
"It has been quite long pending demand to accord central university status to Patna university. My party supports the demand," Kushwaha told reporters here.
He said that it is a coincidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is undertaking a day's visit to the state capital to participate in a programme relating to education sector, when his party has completed all its preparations to organise a mega "Shiksha Sudhar Sankalp Mahasammelan" at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday (October 15).
Rather he parried the query saying that "Does it not sound absurd when demand for according special category status is raised while being in the government."
Though he did not name Nitish Kumar who has been vociferously demanding to accord special category status to Bihar for its rapid and all round development.
The minister, who was accompanied by senior party leader Nagmani, said "there will certainly be my role whenever the process to accord a Central university status to Patna University is initiated or taken.
