The tribunal directed the New India Assurance Company Ltd, insurer of the offending bus, to pay Rs 13,58,200 as compensation to the wife, parents and two minor children of washer man Rakesh Tomar who died in an accident in October last year.
While holding the driver guilty of rash driving, the tribunal relied on the testimony of Rakesh's wife Bharti, who too suffered injuries in the accident.
The tribunal also awarded Rs 10,000 to Bharti, who was on a motorcycle with her husband Rakesh when the bus hit them, for the injuries caused to her.
According to the petition, filed by Bharti, on October 23, 2013, she along with Rakesh, was going on a motorcycle and when they were crossing Vivekanand College here, the bus driven in a rash and negligent manner hit their motorcycle.

During the trial, the driver and owner of the bus had claimed that they did not cause the accident, but the bus was stopped to help the already injured couple. They contended that Bharti had falsely implicated them.
The insurance company had offered to pay Rs 7,000 to Bharti and claimed that it was the fault of the victim who was driving the motorcycle rashly.
