Road accident victim's family gets over Rs 21 L compensation

A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) has awarded over Rs 21 lakh compensation to the family of a 33-year-old man, who died in a road accident due to "negligent driving" by a truck driver last year.
"...It stands proved on record that the victim had suffered fatal injuries due to rash and negligent driving of driver of the vehicle on June 25, last year," the MACT Presiding Officer Prem Kumar Barthwal said.
"I hereby award a sum of Rs 21,38,824 as compensation ...In favour of the petitioner and against the respondents on account of their liability being joint and several," the Presiding Officer said.
The tribunal awarded the compensation to the victim Nand Lal Pandey's parents, wife and two minor children.
Pandey succumbed to injuries in the road accident on June 25 last year here. His family told the tribunal that he was working as a supervisor in a transport company on a salary of Rs 25,000.
The petition was filed by the deceased's family members against the driver, owner and insurer of the offending vehicle.

According to the petitioners, on the fateful day, Pandey was coming from ICD Depot, Tughlakabad here, when the truck hit him at the Depot.
He died while he was being taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre.
The petitioners claimed that the accident took place due to rash and negligent driving of the truck driver.
The driver, the owner of the vehicle and the insurance company had denied the claim of the petitioners.
