Road cave-in: Police open bypass for free traffic movement
Press Trust of India New Delhi Under fire for traffic snarls in central and east Delhi following a cave-in on a stretch on Bhairon Marg, Delhi Police today opened a bypass near the site to allow free movement of vehicles from Ring Road to Mathura Road.
"The bypass from Ring Road to Mathura Road was opened today and is expected to be in place for around 15 days," a senior official said.
The plan is to remove the dividers on the slip road near the affected carriageway, making two lanes available for vehicles heading towards Mathura Road. However, the entire area will be turned into a no-parking zone, the official added.
Yesterday, arterial roads in central and east Delhi were choked with stretches around the ITO junction witnessing long tailbacks for hours as a result of the cave-in.
