Family members of a 60-year-old woman, who died while crossing a road, have been awarded a compensation of over Rs 11 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Presiding Officer Harish Dudani directed Reliance General Insurance Company, insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay a compensation of Rs 11,61,474 to the husband and son of Rohini resident Sarla Pruthi, a government bank employee, who died after being hit by rashly driven vehicle last year.
While holding the driver of the vehicle guilty of rash driving, the tribunal relied on the testimony of victim's husband, Rohtash, and documents including FIR, post mortem report of the victim and mechanical inspection report.
"In view of testimony of victim's husband and documents on record it has been prima facie proved that Sarla sustained fatal injuries due to rash and negligent driving of offending vehicle..." it said.
According to the petition, on January 24, 2013, Sarla and her husband Rohtash, were crossing a road near Dhaula Kuan here, when a rashly driven vehicle hit them and she suffered grievous injuries.
She was taken to JPN Apex Trauma Centre where she was declared dead on arrival, it said.
