A 27-year-old youth, who was hit by a rashly driven car last year and suffered permanent impairment, has been awarded over Rs 32 lakh as compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
MACT Presiding Officer Naveen Arora directed HDFC Ergo General Insurance Company Ltd, the insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay compensation of Rs 32,61,500 to Safdarjung Enclave-resident Shailender Singh after considering that he suffered 50 per cent permanent disability.
"The petitioner suffered 50 per cent physical impairment in relation to his right limb," the tribunal noted.
"The injuries have destroyed his entire social life including his married life," the presiding officer added.
According to Singh, he was hit by a rashly driven Honda City car on May 22 last year near Panchsheel flyover signal in south Delhi, while riding a bike with a friend.
He also alleged that the offending vehicle was being driven in a rash and negligent manner.

His pillion-rider chose to accept the settlement offered by the insurance company.
The car owner, however, did not respond to the allegations before the tribunal.
Considering the youth's age, pain, sufferings, loss of income and other factors, the tribunal awarded Rs 32,61,500 as compensation.
"Due to the permanent disability, the petitioner would not be able to participate in the normal activities of his daily life to pursue his talents, recreation interest, hobbies and evocations," the presiding officer observed.
