Road mishap victim gets Rs 48 lakh compensation

A 36-year-old man, whose left leg was amputated after being hit by a rashly driven car, has been awarded a compensation of over Rs 48 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
The tribunal directed TATA AIG General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending car was insured, to pay Rs 48,20,420 to victim Dipanjan Ghosh, who was working with Tech Mahindra Ltd in Noida.
"Further as no contrary evidence came against the petitioner (Ghosh), it stands proved that the petitioner had suffered injuries due to rash and negligent driving of the respondent no. 1 (car driver)," MACT Presiding Officer Ajay Kumar Jain said.
Ghosh approached the tribunal seeking compensation and submitted that the accident took place on April 23, last year when was going from his home at Khanpur Extension to Chitranjan Park on his motorcycle.
The mishap took place near Batra Hospital when the rashly driven Santro car, being driven by Rahul Mittal, came at a high speed from the wrong side and hit Ghosh's motorcycle.
Due to the impact, he suffered grievous injuries and requested the car driver to take him to the hospital but he refused and was removed to a hospital by an auto driver and was then shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Ghosh, who was earning Rs 6.78 lakh per annum at the time of the accident, said he had undergone three surgeries and his left leg was amputated.
During the proceedings, Rahul, who was driving the car, and his brother Praveen Mittal, the owner of the car, had claimed that the accident was caused due to the rash and negligent driving by Ghosh.
