The tribunal directed ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending Scorpio vehicle was insured, to pay Rs 46,61,280 as compensation to the brother and sister of the victim Ramandeep Kaur, who was yet to get married.
"As such in view of testimonies of the witnesses..., no doubt is left in respect of the deceased having suffered fatal injuries in road traffic accident on August 25, 2008 due to rash and negligent driving of the (offending) vehicle by respondent No.1 (driver-cum-owner) of the offending vehicle," MACT Presiding Officer S C Malik said.
"When the car reached Navanshahr in Punjab, the offending Scorpio car driven by its owner Rajpal Singh at high speed in a rash and negligent manner came from opposite side and hit the victim's car," the family had said.
As a result, Kaur, a resident of Burari here, had sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot, it had said, adding that the driver also died.
