Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav today reviewed the construction work of the road section of the Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge and said that he hoped it would become functional by June 11.
"I am quite confident that the construction of the road section of the Digha-Sonepur rail-cum-road bridge will be completed by the end of May and would be made operational from June 11, this year," Tejashwi told reporters here.
He asked senior officials of the road construction department, Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited and other officials to make sure that the construction work is completed by June 11, 2017.
Asked whether he wanted to gift the road section of the rail-cum-road bridge to his father, Tejashwi said, "It will be a gift to the people of Bihar on Lalu Prasad's birthday."
The importance of the 4.56 Km long Digha-Sonepur bridge could be gauged from the fact that it would work as an alternative to the existing Gandhi Setu, the link between Patna and north Bihar.
The Gandhi Setu is in a dilapidated condition and its restructuring work will take about 42 months. The work is yet to start.
