The roadside bombing happened today in Kabul province's Kalakan district. Local official Rahmat Khan Faqirzada said the blast, likely from a remote-controlled bomb, also wounded a civilian.
Faqirzada says an investigation is underway to determine who planted the bomb. The Taliban later claimed responsibility for the blast in a text message to journalists.
Meanwhile in Kunar province, governor's spokesman Muslim Abdul Ghani says a suspected NATO drone strike yesterday killed a militant commander and one of his fighters. NATO had no immediate comment on the strike.
