They said the financier had come out of his house on hearing some noise in the backyard when the robbers surrounded him and threatened to kill him if he raised any alarm.
They then tied-up his wife inside the house and took away the keys of the lockers of the financier's office, situated a few buildings away, and decamped with the valuables.
Police said jewels, weighing in kilos, had been stolen but could not immediately give the details.
But an assistant at the financier's office said several kg of gold had been kept in the locker.
