Robbers looted commuters by camouflaging as woman; busted

A gang of robbers, that lured commuters by decking up one of its male members as a woman on the roadside, has been busted with the arrest of eight persons from east Delhi's New Usmanpur area, police said today.
Mohammad Zafar was arrested from 5th Pusta New Usmanpur yesterday on an specific input about the gang involved in 19 cases of robbery and snatching. He used to buy stolen mobile phones and valuables from other members.
During interrogation, he revealed the involvement of other gang members: Rinku Gupta, Pappu, Arif, Vishal, Zahid, Akash and Shahnawaj, said DCP (north east) Ajit Kumar Singla.
Zahid used to camouflage himself as woman by wearing their clothes and was used as a bait to waylaid commuters, who were robbed by other members of the gang, police said.
New Usmanpur police has worked out 19 cases of robbery and snatching with the arrest of the accused and recovered 14 stolen mobile phones from their possession, said the officer.
