Robbery case against gangrape accused: cop deposes as witness

A Delhi Police official today told a court here conducting the trial in a robbery case involving the December 16 gangrape accused that one of the offenders had led the investigators to the place where they had thrown the victim after robbing and assaulting him.
Deposing as a prosecution witness, Delhi Police constable Nawal, who was posted at Vasant Vihar police station here at the time of the incident, said one of the accused Mukesh was arrested after he was interrogated in connection with the robbery case.
"The accused (Mukesh) led the police team to IIT flyover, outer Ring road, and pointed out the place where he, along with his co-accused, had thrown the complainant after robbing and beating him up," he told Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash.
The court, which had on July 15 framed charges of kidnapping and dacoity against the four accused, recorded the statement of the witness and listed the matter for further evidence on August 13.
The court had put on trial accused Akshay Kumar Singh, Mukesh, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma for the offences under various sections of the IPC, including sections 395 (dacoity) and 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine a person) for allegedly beating up and robbing carpenter Ram Adhar.
They are accused of committing robbery before allegedly raping and assaulting a 23-year-old girl in a moving bus in south Delhi on December 16, last year. The girl died in a Singapore hospital on December 29.
Key accused Ram Singh was found dead in his cell after he had allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail on March 11. Besides them, a juvenile, who is facing proceedings in the gangrape and murder case before Juvenile Justice Board, was recently convicted by JJB in the robbery case.
