"In an interesting development, when the investigating agencies have been busy with arresting people trying to exchange banned notes with new ones, we have a case wherein we have arrested five persons for trying to exchange new currency notes with old ones, after committing robbery," Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central, Sandeep Patil told PTI here.
The accused were arrested four days ago, he said.
Patil said the accused had committed robbery of Rs 10 lakh and wanted it to be exchanged with banned notes after they were promised by one of them that they would get Rs 20 lakh in return and were hoodwinked into believing it. The police have only recovered nine lakh rupees out of 10 lakh, Patil said.
