Mentha oil prices climbed by 1.57 per cent to Rs 1,399.50 per kg in futures trading today as speculators created fresh positions amid pick-up in demand from consuming industries in the domestic spot market.

Besides, tight stocks position on fall in arrivals from Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh, fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, mentha oil for delivery in April shot up by Rs 21.70, or 1.57 per cent, to Rs 1,399.50 per kg in a business turnover of 217 lots.

Likewise, the oil for delivery in May gained Rs 19.30, or 1.55 per cent, to Rs 1,262.50 per kg in 99 lots.

Marketmen said, fresh positions built up by traders after upsurge in demand from consuming industries at the physical markets against restricted supplies from Chandausi led to the rise in mentha oil prices at futures trade.
