Zinc prices rose by 1.30 per cent to Rs 179 per kg in futures trade today as participants raised bets, taking positive cues from the spot market on upsurge in demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, zinc for delivery in August rose by Rs 2.30, or 1.30 per cent, to Rs 179 per kg in a business turnover of 2,082 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in July contracts was trading higher by Rs 1.65, or 0.93 per cent, to Rs 179.65 per kg in 3,845 lots.

Analysts said expansion of positions by traders on the back of uptick in demand from consuming industries in the physical market pushed up zinc prices in futures trade.
