"I worked on Rabindrasangeet for the first time without trying to be radically different. But I liberally incorporated western classical and 'baul' elements in the score," Gaurab, son of '70s rock musician Goutam Chattopadhyay of 'Mohiner Ghoraguli' fame, told PTI.
Asked specifically if he had deviated from the notation, Gaurab, "Not really. I have attempted to present the songs in sync with the global identity of Tagore."
Gaurab, better known as 'Gabbu', said, "I have put in my best efforts. I introduced a lot of notes which gel well with the movie and reflect the turbulence of the '30s."
The film has five songs including 'Ay Tabe Sahachari', 'Majhe Majhe Tobo Dekha Pai', and 'Mamo Chitte Niti Nritye', he said.
He did not fully agree that experimentation with Tagore's songs has become easy with relaxation of copyright.
"Yes, upto a certain limit. You can't tinker with Tagore's music much," Gaurab, the drummer of leading Kolkata band 'Lakkhichhara' for years, said.

He welcomed Kolkata bands entering film music in a bigger way like Anindyo of Chandrabindoo, Surajit-Soumitra of Bhoomi and Sidhu of Cactus.
"It's a welcome sign and I hope it will give a contemporary touch to film music, bringing in new elements."
He said he executed the idea of director Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay in the film produced by Dreamz Movies. "I feel music has to be organic and not synthetic."
Gaurab's first big break was Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's 'Kagojer Bou' and Shekhar Das's 'Necklace'.
"Gabu has done a very intense job. I am happy that boys like him are coming up," the director said.
