Rohtang Pass closed for vehicular traffic, mercury plummets in

The Rohtang Pass has been closed for vehicular traffic today as high-altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh reeled under piercing cold with minimum temperatures hovering around freezing point at several places.
All natural sources of water like lakes, springs and tributaries of snow-fed rivers have frozen as the mercury hovered around minus 10 degrees Celsius and minus 15 degrees Celsius in high-altitude tribal areas and mountain passes.
Keylong recorded a low of minus 2.9 degrees Celsius while Kalpa, Manali and Bhuntar shivered at 0.4 degrees Celsius, 1 degrees Celsius and 2 degrees Celsius respectively, the MeT department said.
Sundernagar registered a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Solan 4 degrees Celsius, Una 5.2 degrees Celsius, Palampur 6.5 degrees Celsius, Shimla 7.1 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 7.2 degrees Celsius and Nahan 8.9 degrees Celsius.
There was minor fluctuation in day temperatures and Una recorded a high of 26 degrees Celsius, followed by Sundernagar 23.3 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 22.8 degrees Celsius, Solan 21.7 degrees Celsius, Nahan 19.5 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala 17.6 degrees Celsius and Shimla 17.2 degrees Celsius.
The MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region till December 2 and rains or thundershowers at isolated places in the mid hills on November 28.
