Role of specialist officers at sea emphasised

: A top Navy official todayemphasised the role of specialist officers at seaand the need for Navyofficers of the country to be top class professionals.
"The art of warfare is ever changing and there is a constant need to learn afresh and improvise," Flag officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral A R Karve said.
He was speaking after presenting theprestigiousAdmiral G M Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy to Lieutenant CommanderP Ashok Varma forthe best performance during the year long Naval Warfare Specialisation Courses conducted by Southern Naval Command for officers under training.
The officer specialises in 'Communication and Electronic Warfare' and has won the award amongst all officers undergoing different specialisations such as 'Anti Submarine Warfare', 'Navigation and Direction'and 'Gunnery and Missile Warfare'.
Besides him, Lieutenant Commanders Aditya Kumar Pandey, P R Jana, Lieutenant Rohan Kulkarni and Assistant Commandant Simranjeet Singh of the Coast Guard won prizes for their meritorious performance, a Navy release said.
Admiral Karve complimented the Hiranandani family for their abiding commitment to the Indian Navy.

Susheel Hiranandani, wife of late Vice Admiral G M Hiranandani, in whose memory the trophy has been instituted, graced the ceremony.
TheAdmiral GM Hiranandani Memorial Rolling Trophy was instituted in the year 2013in memory of thelate Admiral, who retired as Vice Chief of the Navy in 1989 and had served as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command.
Post his retirement, as the official historian of the Indian Navy, he chronicled Indian Navy's history in three acclaimed volumes - Transition to Triumph,Transition to Eminence and Transition to Guardianship.
