Round-the-clock community kitchen in Nepal

A round-the-clock 'langar' has been provided by the Punjab government in worst affected areas of Kathmandu and adjoining villages in the earthquake ravaged Nepal.
The special team sent by the Punjab government to supervise the relief operation has roped in local Sikh populace and other volunteers for the community kitchen, an official spokesman said here today.
The community kitchen has been set up at Gurudwara Guru Nanak Satsang, Kupandol, Lalitpur, where on an average 5000 earthquake victims were partaking langar daily, since April 30, he said.
Besides, victims were being provided medicines, blankets, tarpaulins and milk, he said.
The team has also distributed ration in Hari Sidh besides serving 'langar' to 3000 people, he said.
Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had flagged off the first consignment of relief material for the Nepal from the Chandigarh airport on April 30.
The relief material contained 65 quintal of rice, 20 quintal pulses, 40 quintal refined oil, 15 quintal onion, two quintal ginger, six quintal salt, 75 kg each of turmeric, garam masala and chilli powder, three quintal of jeera, 15 quintal of sugar, 1.5 quintal of tea and 50 quintal of milk powder.
The plane also carried 1000 blankets, 5000 shawls, 200 plastic covers and 500 kg of milk for children for the earthquake affected Nepal, the spokesman said.
