Jharkhand minister Saryu Roy has urged Union Minister Piyush Goyal to initiate action against coal and power companies for "failing" to comply with his May 12 direction to find ways to prevent flow of industrial wastes in the Damodar river and its tributaries in the state.
In a letter to the Union Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) Minister, Roy alleged there was continuous flow of effluents into the rivers despite direction to the companies situated alongside the rivers to stop industrial waste and give an action taken report within three months, which ended on August 12 this year.
But no company has given any report so far, said the Jharkhand Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs minister.
Releasing a copy of his letter to the media here today, Roy urged Goyal to take stringent action against such companies for "failing" to comply with the orders.
Roy is also the chairperson of Damodar Bacchao Andolan.
