In a statement issued today, the Commission said it received reports of compliance of its recommendations in 44 cases by different public authorities at the Centre and states.
Apart from initiating departmental and criminal proceedings against the guilty public servants, they paid an amount of Rs 1.17 crore as relief to the victims of human rights violations or their next of kin and also submitted a proof of payment as directed by the Commission.
10 cases of death in prison had a maximum number of four in Uttar Pradesh followed by two in Andhra Pradesh and one each in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Punjab.
Eight cases were of death in police custody with maximum three in Telangana followed by two in UP and one each in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Meghalaya, it said.
Seven cases were of death in police encounter with maximum five in Assam, while two cases were of death in police firing in UP and Gujarat.
