Rs 1.53 crore seized in run up to Delhi LS polls

Cash and other items worth over Rs 1.53 crore and 25,000 litres of illicit liquor were seized by the Delhi Election Commission-appointed team in the national capital into the run up to the polls for the seven Lok Sabha seats here.
According to the data compiled by the Election Commission, Rs 65.38 lakh was seized by the Income Tax department, flying squads and surveillance teams separately till April 10. The items seized include some pieces of metallic glasses said to be diamond worth Rs 20 lakh and narcotics worth 2.69 lakh.
A total of 173 FIRs were registered against political parties for violating Model Code of Conduct during Lok Sabha election.
The elections were however, peaceful as no untoward incident impacting/interrupting the polling process was reported on the day of polling, said an official.
During the period, police have lodged 350 FIRs under Arms Act and Excise Act and arrested 368 people in this connection. When it comes to illegal liquor, 5422 bottles, 3603 halves, 136584 quarters, 1092 bottle beer were seized. On day of elections, 360 bottles IMFL and 1176 bottles country-made liquor were seized.
Police seized 96 unlicensed arms and weapons besides 180 cartridges while 677 licensed arms were deposited. In 2192 incidents, preventive cases have been initiated while preventive action was taken against 3,799 people.
Against 57,853 people preventive action was taken under Delhi Police Act and various other acts. Non-bailable warrants were executed against 3578 people.
