The government has designed a scheme to strictly enforce fishing ban period and also guard restricted zones of water along the Goa coast, said an explanatory memorandum on the state budget which was tabled during the ongoing State Legislative Assembly session.
The government has said that it wants to guard the waters from mechanised fishing so as to protect the fishing area for traditional fishermen and to ensure conservation of fishery resources in keeping with the provisions of Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1981.
The annual fishing ban from June 1-July 31 midnight in the coastal state is for facilitating the spawning of aquatic life.
