Jamui Superintendent of Police Upendra Prasad Singh said the recovered money is a part of a consignment of Rs 4 crore cash belonging to HDFC Bank, which had fallen from a cash van in Kolkata on September 9 this year.
"A few hawkers were present at the spot where the bundle of currency notes fell from the cash van. They distributed the money among themselves and fled away. The police there started investigations right away and recently approached us for help," Singh said.
He said that the search operation was still underway and more money is expected to be recovered.
Ten persons have been arrested in this connection, police said.
