Five men allegedly robbed over Rs 1 lakh from a departmental store in Shahdara area of Northeast Delhi at gunpoint, police said today.
The incident took place early morning yesterday when the employees of the Reliance Fresh store were checking the stocks of milk and vegetables, a police official said.
The five armed men with their faces covered barged into the store, rolled down the shutter and held the employees hostage at gunpoint, the official said.
They then took money from the cash box of the store and fled. While fleeing, they also attacked one of the employees with the butt of a pistol.
After the robbers were gone, the employees informed the police.
A case of robbery has been registered at the Shahdara police station.
"Around Rs 1,40,000 were robbed by the assailants. We have scanned the CCTV footage which shows that the robbers entered the store at 6.35 am and left the premises at 6.41 am," the official.
It seems that either the robbers had inside information or they had done recce of the store as they knew that only few employees will be there early in the morning and there will be no customers, he said.
The employees of the store have been questioned and the CCTV camera footage of the area is being scanned to identify the culprits, police said.
