The Tamil Nadu government on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of a TASMAC salesman who was allegedly killed by unidentified persons in Krishnagiri district on Wednesday.
The sale and distribution of liquor in the state is regulated by the government-run Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC), which also has its own retail outlets.
In a statement here, the Chief Minister K Palaniswami said M Raja was allegedly killed after unidentified persons attacked him after entering the TASMAC outlet in Nedusalai village in that district on August 14.
Condoling Raja's death, Palaniswami also expressed his sympathies with the family of the victim.
Palaniswami further said he has directed that Raja's family be paid a sum of Rs 10 lakh from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund, besides expediting settling all due cash benefits.
The chief minister also said he has directed that the victim's wife be provided job on compassionate grounds based on her educational qualification, in a nutritious meal centre or an anganwadi.
Also, he directed the police to take stringent legal action against those involved in the attack.
