A day after hiking the financial aid given to them under various heads, the Haryana government today announced more steps for the welfare of construction workers, including a sum of Rs 100 crore to set up night shelters for them across the state.
The shelters, to be developed by the Building and Other Construction Worker's Board in collaboration with the Urban Local Bodies Department, will come up at all district headquarters on land provided by the concerned local authority, an official release said here today.
While setting up such shelters, preference will be given to municipal areas, and a sum of Rs 100 crore has been earmarked for the purpose during the current financial year, it said.
In addition to this, the government has also approved a proposal of the health department with an outlay of Rs 44.50 crore to provide medical facilities to the workers at construction sites as well as in their residential colonies.
It will also set up urban health centres for the workers, cost of which will be shared in a 2:1 ratio between the board and the Health Department, the release said.
Free diagnostic and surgery facilities will also be provided to the workers at all government hospitals, including tertiary health care facilities in referral hospitals like PGIMS and AIIMS, it added.
